Thanks for all the virtual high-5’s on my last post, The Good List. I’ve decided I’m going to do a sequel - The Good List Part 2, cause it was so much fun to put to put together, and you guys were such great sports! You can look forward to that here in the next few weeks.
In the meantime, let’s talk food. And cooking. You with me on this?
I’m a huge fan of celebrity chef Jamie Oliver (that charming English accent doesn’t hurt), and I truly admire how he has helped reform school lunch programs, fight obesity and has helped change the eating habits of others in order to promote healthier and longer lives.
So when I heard about this…

I practically jumped out of my chair and said “Where do I sign up”!
According to Jamie’s website, Food Revolution Day, which is going to held this weekend Saturday May 19th, is a global day of action for people to think about where their food comes from and get back into their kitchens. It’s a chance for people who love food to come together to share information, talents and resources. Food Revolution Day is open to anyone in the world who wants to take the steps towards a healthier lifestyle and better education.
How am I participating? I’m hosting a small dinner party for my family!
Everyone loves a dinner party and on Saturday May 19th, people around the world (including myself) will be hosting special meals in support of food education and increasing awareness about the food we eat. The aim is to cook with fresh ingredients - no processed foods allowed.
This Saturday, May 19th, come meet me back here – I’ll be sharing photos from our dinner party, including our menu and detailed recipes from our yummy feast. I will be making an organic, locally grown, home cooked vegan meal.
And it’s my hope that if you decide to participate, you’ll blog about it and share the link with us here so we can check it out and share some Food Revolution Love!

I wonder if there's really any school lunch program that has been changed by Jamie Oliver's program. I loved the idea, but I work for a public school, and it's pretty idealistic to think that government money would be spent like that. Our school lunches are atrocious, and it's all about the dollar. I know how cynical this sounds. It true.
ReplyDeleteI agree, it is alarming what comes out of most school cafeteria's. I watched an episode with Jamie Oliver, where the children were unable to correctly identify common fruits and vegetables. It is my hope through all of the efforts he has put forth, it will spark awareness and conversation, just as we're doing here.

Amen. We're reading the original Boxcar Children right now. I had to explain what turnips and turnip greens were today when the children made stew with them. They get nothing fresh in our cafeteria any more. It's all frozen, processed foods, except for an occasional apple or a banana. The cafeteria staff doesn't cook anything...and to think we used to get homemade enchiladas, dressing, soup, rolls....:(
