A few months back, I found this gorgeous vintage tufted leather chair at a flea market, and had all good intention of reselling it.
After all, this is what I do for a living…buy and sell my finds. Usually, this is not a problem because I don’t allow myself to get too attached to most things. But once in a while, something really special comes along, and it relentlessly tugs at my heartstrings…
So I thought ‘why not give it a try’ and gave in. I carried it down the hallway, into our master bedroom…
And I fell crazy mad in love with it in here…
Then we all too soon realized ‘oh yeah, our bedroom is the size of a shoe box, and there’s hardly room for another stick of furniture’. (Insert pouty face here).
So I quickly resorted to Plan B: the chalkboard wall in our living room.
I think the chair looks right at home here…
I think it’s safe to say I’m pretty attached to it. Besides, if I’m sitting in it, there’s less a chance of Adam dragging it out to sell it at the next flea market, right?
Now there’s just one problem…
My white slip covered sofa. Well, it’s not really a problem, but after 12 years (which is really like 68 in interior design years), I think I’m finally over it. Maybe it’s the rolled arms, or the matelasse material, but I’m feeling ready to move on…
Ever since one of my clients got one similar for her living room, I’ve had my eyes peeled for a vintage leather chesterfield, something kinda like this one…
Hubba, Hubba!
It’s elegant and refined, yet beautifully worn in with loads of character. I love its vibe.
Who knows how long it might take to even find a vintage chesterfield, let alone one that’s in our budget, but I’ll certainly keep you posted!
Till next time, click and keep up with us on our favorite sites….

LOVE that chair, so glad you decided to keep it!
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful chair. You look so cute in it. That sofa would be a find. I love the one you have though. I want new furniture so bad......it has to be child and dog friendy. I may just have to stay with what I have.....heaven knows it sure is.
ReplyDeleteThanks Debby! The key for us would be cat friendly : )
DeleteWhat a gorgeous chair. It looks great in both places, but it looks like it was made to sit by the chalkboard wall!
ReplyDeleteLove the chair, what flea market do you sell at? Have a great Sunday!
ReplyDeleteThanks Miss Hannah! We sell at the Ventura Flea Market, at the Fairgounds in Ventura. If you come out, be sure and pop in our booth to say hi!
DeleteI will for sure!!! Thanks for the info...
DeleteI can certainly see why you love that leather chair so much! :)You look adorable in it!
ReplyDeleteGood luck finding that gorgeous sofa...it is really a beauty! :)
Perfect place!
ReplyDeleteMarkus
I hear you loud and clear. That is the same style of sofa that I am looking for.Restoration Hardware and Pottery Barn have a few in the same style though the price Ouch! Best of luck! Love the chair and it looks great~Cheers Kim
ReplyDeleteMy client got hers from RH, and it's super pricey but cute.
DeleteCute post. Love the round box in the corner... ... and you look GREAT on that chair. Tell you what, if you ever want to sell it, sell it to me and you can come visit it at my house...LOL BaHAHAHA!!! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Marcy! I think I already have visitation rights on that European wood bench you have at your house, no?
DeleteHi Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteOh Yes! the perfect chair..I love it too. What a wonderful find. You look adorable sitting in your chair and I love the throw over the arm. I have home made throws on all my sofa's and home made quilts in all my bedrooms.
Have the sweetest of days and hugs, Elizabeth
Oh my gosh Alison at Polohouse just posted on these Chesterfields....must be in the air! Good luck
ReplyDeleteI just popped over there and you're right! How funny is that : )
Deletemy Grandmother went into a home 3 years ago. She had a gorgeous, horse hair stuffed chesterfield which she lovingly restored and re-upholstered. When the family was going through her things, not everyone agreed on what to do with it. My Aunt and Uncle actually took it to the dump-can you imagine? it was gorgeous (My Granny was a chic lady!). My Mother was devestated, but alas, it was too late to do anything about it. The good news is, we managed to save many of her other vintage and antique treasures, many of which now reside in my home =) ps where did you get the roll arm chair? It looks similar to one I'm looking at from Restoration Hardware. If it is from RH, how do you like it? Is it comfy?
ReplyDeleteYour granny certainly does sound like she was a chic lady! I'm glad you were able to save some of her treasures : )
DeleteThe upholstered chairs in our living room were actually purchased locally, in Westlake Village, CA. And yes, they are incredibly comfy!
I do not blame you for keeping this one.....gorgeous! I must say I liked it in your bedroom..... I hope you get your sofa..I am sure the way you find treasures you will run across that baby soon.... Blessings!
ReplyDeleteso beautiful! looks so comfy!
ReplyDeletei once saw lg round, worn leather coffee table/foot prop at a GW & LEFT IT THERE...i'm still kicking & screaming! :) lucky find! Esther
ReplyDeleteEvery time I have wanted something like that sofa, I have gotten it. God truly blesses me in his time. While the white slipcovered sofa is a classic, so is the Chesterfield in a different way. Be careful what you ask for because it will change your whole space in a different direction. But hey, change is good.
ReplyDeleteThe chair is beautiful and it definitely found the perfect home! And if you are selling the sofa and chair... how much and how far do you live from me? Thanks so much for sharing... it looks great.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure where you're located, but I'm in Southen California and we're asking $400 for the white slipcovered sofa :)
DeleteI really enjoyed your post it made me laugh and that's sometimes hard to do...I love your style & I don't blame you for not selling your chair!!! It looks amazing in your space... P.S I'm new to blogging and I invite you to come over and visit my new blog.. Blessings Lori
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear somebody thinks I'm funny!
DeleteCool chair Jen!!! I hope you find the sofa of your dreams!! I think 12 years is more like 75 in decorating years! :)
ReplyDeleteThe chair is fabulous..you are darling..and wow, I can see why you covet that sofa!!! I hope it finds it's way to your home soon. ;)
ReplyDeleteI love your chair Jen...Beautiful! i love the chesterfields, but i am a biased as i finally got 1 after wanting to own 1 for the last 27 years...i have owned mine for 3 weeks, it is new with an italian vintage leather and i love it!
ReplyDeleteI hope you'll tell us where you found it! We're eager to find out : )
DeleteSorry Jen, forgot to say i am from Australia...i got mine from our local Freedom Furniture store(cheapish homeware/furniture store) on sale.I am sure you will find the most perfect chesterfield just for you...you have a beautiful house & contents to inspire others who have houses in similar size...good luck in your search...ox
DeleteThanks for replying Tracey!
DeleteThat's one sexy chair - I can feel the love from here and am so with you on the old leather sofa......B:)
ReplyDeleteLoving it so much, I want to marry it : )

ReplyDeleteThanks Ruthie! Im really just a grown-up goofball!

ReplyDeleteAs for the chair... We love our new toys, have fun with it!
Lots love
Laurie

DeleteI would have kept that chair as well! She is a beauty! I love the vintage chesterfield also! Iv'e had my eyes peeled for a while now, no dice so far.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Great photo of you in your fav chair! xo-Lisa
love that chair! I love the white sofa with your room, but I get what you are saying. I came a across a crackly old leather sofa (not chesterfield, but great lines anyway) at GW a couple months ago....wish I'd had the funds to buy it! so classic. Your living room looks effortless. working on getting mine that way :) And the bag with the ribbon on it? LOVE!! such a cute idea!!
ReplyDeleteI am glad you kept that wonderful leather chair. I love it's lines and worn bits and pieces. It looks so at home in your living room and you look so happy sitting on it!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Susan and Bentley
The picture of you is so darling!! And I LOVE the chair. Don't you dare get rid of it!
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Jilly
what a great picture of you in that awesome chair jen! :) chris
ReplyDeleteHi Skinny Girl!
ReplyDeleteThe chair looks great as do you. But keep the white sofa for contrast. But I may be biased...you know me and white..lol.
Nicki
Oh my yes...I would sleep in that chair to keep it from going out the door!! Who would have ever thought we would or could tire of white...I am loving our darker living room choice thats for sure!! All the best,Chrissy
ReplyDeleteLove the chair, but I actually like your white sofa better than that leather Chesterfield you have your eye on! :-)
ReplyDeleteLove the chair. I always love a white sofa, but the leather would be very practical (and very cool).
ReplyDeleteI adore that chair! I too am craving a little leather. I think want a leather club chair for our den. So glad you decided to keep it. It is beautiful in your home!
ReplyDeleteRachel@ Worn Cotton
What a find! Happy for you - sad for the rest of us who would have bought it! You know how they say you shouldn't name a dog if you don't want to keep it? Well, I think you probably shouldn't take a picture of yourself lookin' good in a chair you might get rid of! Haha. Now you are hooked forever!
ReplyDeleteYou know how kooky crazy I am for Chesterfields and that chair would not be leaving my home either, Jennifer! What an excellent find! Try Craigslist for a sofa and sometimes even Ebay local pickup. I have seen them on both!

Alison
I love the chair as well as that leather couch. hubba hubba is such a funny saying to me. reminds me of my mom and made me laugh. thanks. cute pic of you. I didn't know you were in Santa Monica. I went to school there and miss it sometimes :)
ReplyDeleteMC
How cute are you!!!! I just came over from Alison's and had to see your brautiful blog too. I'll be back. Hope you find your sofa!! XO, Pinky
ReplyDeleteSO glad you decided to keep the chair. I think you def would have regretted it. Would you believe I found my leather Duncan Phyfe sofa on Craig's List for $125? I'm totally serious. I stalked these poor people for days until they finally called me back. It is my all time favorite and best score ever. For the record, I love your slip covered sofa - heck, I love your whole house.
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Kim
Just found your site and I love it! You may have seen this, and it's not true vintage, but Home Decorators Collection has a Chesterfield sofa that is similar for $999 and a smaller one for $799. Here's a link http://www.homedecorators.com/P/Gordon_Tufted_Sofa/760/
